Working Dads Count, too...

We working mothers read and write about the balance issues, lifestyle choices, etc...but the fact is, many dads grapple with these as well.

This week, my big sweetie is home with the little sweetie while recovering from a nasty bout of toddler rotavirus. If your child has never had it, consider yourself lucky - it's a hideous, dehydrating version of the a stomach flu that landed us in urgent care, the ER and finally admitted to the hospital for two days. Little kids just shouldn't wear hospital gowns or get used to tossing the IV cord over their shoulder while playing with blocks. It was tough.

But he's definitely on the mend, and moving the right direction. Food is actually staying down now, but "loose" stool diapers are the norm, and we won't send him back to school till he's better. How to cover?

Meanwhile, I'm stepping into a new role, and this week was incredibly busy. On the flip side, big sweetie has a slow week, and is in between managing large projects. Happily, he was able to take off nearly the whole week to tend to little sweetie. It has been an absolute godsend that his corporate job can be flexible this way. I get a little lump in my throat when I pull out of the driveway each morning in my work clothes, and wave goodbye to them in their shorts/tees and matching blue Crocs. Part of our work-life balance is juggling schedules like this. And other dads do this too: Great article  http://www.typepad.com/t/trackback/796601/30186680 on Chicago Moms Blog regarding lesson learned from Corporate Fathers. Myself, I'm a huge user of "hard stop" and "out of pocket" phrases. Whatever it takes to get it done!
